How can anyone think soundly and choose wisely about any matter unless they have the guidance of the Holy Spirit
How often do we find ourselves in a place where we are dissatisfied with people in positions of power? I know many people that are quite outspoken about the actions of people in power over them. I very often find myself commenting on choices that people in my work based management make. The more their choices impact me the more vocal I tend to be.
Recently I was very frustrated about an issue and like any child. I went to my Heavenly Father and complained about the apparent injustice that I was placed under. someone upstairs made some choices that did not go the way I thought they should have. Fortunately for me, the Lord has a sense of humor and drew me out a bit. He let me speak my mind until I felt that I had said it all.
He listened to me complain until I felt satisfied that I had said enough to convince God to step in and fight for my cause. Anyone that has been in love with God will know that He does not always respond to us in a way we expect. This time was no different. As soon as I settled down I heard this quiet voice in my heart. The Lord asked me…
WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT?
My heart wanted justice and it spoke out in my Father’s presence. The Lord of course being a loving Father did what a Father should, and my lesson began. I found myself convicted of a number of things.
My management are not children of God and did not have the support that was available to God’s people. This meant that they had very limited ability to make Godly decisions. let alone cater for people like me that are under their instruction. The message from my Father was clear and left no room for misunderstanding.
The Lord explained to me that I could only be dissatisfied with them if I was invested in prayer for them. I was expecting people to act in a way that served my way of thinking. Only they did not have the support of God’s Kingdom.
How can anyone think soundly and choose wisely about any matter unless they have the guidance of the Holy Spirit? How can anyone have support from the Holy Spirit if they are not a child of God? It’s simple actually. The Bible is filled with examples of God blessing and guiding leaders by using those who serve them. The lives of Joseph, Esther, and Daniel are some examples of how God used His own people to guide people in leadership positions toward Godly choices.
Getting back to my frustration with my situation….
The Lord helped me to understand that I had a key role to play in fixing my frustration. Unless I pray for those in charge of me I can not expect them to reach godly standards in their work. Unless people are children of God they can not benefit from God’s Kingdom and the support that it gives believers.
So I guess that there is a burden on me to support my management in prayer so that they in turn would have the support of Godly guidance. My frustration, as it turned out, was because I had a lesson to learn and a duty to perform. I had to learn that I could only have a voice in a situation if I was contributing to it.
Originally I felt affected because things were being decided for me and I felt that those choices were hurting m future. I felt that I had a right to feel dissatisfied. It turned out that God would only value my complaint if I was contributing to improving my situation. This concept is explained quite nicely in Jer 29v7: “Seek the welfare of the city to which I’ve exiled you and pray to the LORD for it, for your welfare depends on its welfare.”
The message to me was clear. Invest yourself in the future of your home, work, community, or country. If the children of God do not invest themselves to improve this world, it will always be a place where injustice has center stage. In my mind this message is not unique to my life but the life of many believers accross the world.
